Hellfest part II

24 Jun

The other side of the Hellfest.

You have to know that the Hellfest is annually hosted by the town/community of Clisson.

What´s so special about Clisson?

Well besides its history (which I will spare you in order to get to the pont) it is an Italian town with a lovely castle.

To be precise; around 1800 two brother came into the valley of Clisson: Pierre and Francois Cacault (painter and diplomate).

They had to flee Italy and were so inspired by it that they started to rebuild the town the toscan architecture in mind.            The result? A lovely little town in the middle of nowhere that makes you want to relax near a well, have burrata with grilled vegetables and a glass of Sangiovese.

Hellfest part 1

19 Jun

I like to tackle my boundaries. And again, something I was never likely to do was to go to a Heavy Metal festival: Hellfest

I worked there as a make-up artist for a German/French Channel called Arte and because I jump on every occasion to do something stupid and funny I ended up running around in a giant wig.

It was very interesting to experience a universe that is so not my normal habitat. I loved watching people and their outfits. Besides the fact that concerts started at 10:30 am (Death metal – boy did my ears hurt) people were surprisingly calm and incredibly polite and adorable. I guess that has something to do with the fact that they can express who they are and live it out and therefore there is no aggressiveness whatsoever.

We did a lot of interviews and I loved the difference between seeing artists in front of me being very calm and professional and then loosing it on stage throwing blood on people in the front row.

I was also surprised that there were bands I actually knew; Lynyrd Skynyrd (thanks for singing Sweet Home Alabama), Slash, Ozzy Ozbourne (Why did you pour that bucket over your head? It was raining anyway), Guns N´Roses, DAD, Steel Panthers

Anyway, there are two things I didn´t get. First there was the wall of death (people running into each other like on a battle field) and second; I have never gotten so much attention in my whole life than when I was wearing my wig (and most of the time you didn´t even see my face). People actually believed it was my real hair and boy did I get some weird proposals. ;-)

I guess now I know what to do if I ever get lonely cause surprisingly, in this scene, everybody is very much into family. Most artists were married and just caring about their wives (some even dragged them along to the festival).

Sex, drugs and rock´n´roll? No, faithful is the new sexy.

PS: Don´t forget to watch the documentary on August 4th on Arte ;-)

Something Austrian

12 Jun

A friend of mine just called me and said:

” What can you do with a kilo of apricots? I just got bored and made myself some ´Marillenröster´. Hey, you could post this on your blog!!!”

Well thanks A.  for the glorious idea and the pic ;-)

To explain: a ´Marillenröster´is something typically Austrian and is in between of marmelade and a sweet sauce to go with sweet dishes such as pancakes. My sister does a delicious one with prunes.

You need:

  • 1kg of apricots
  • 200g of sugar
  • 125ml of water
  • a splash of rum

Here it goes:

Boil the water with the sugar until thick (something close to glucose syrup), then add the apricots (cut in half and without the stone). Stir till it gets a lovely marmelade texture then add a splash of rum. Voilà – ready to eat!

It is very easy to make and tastes delicous and you can also serve it cold on the breakfast table.

Note: My sister likes to add a tiny bit of cinnamon… so if you are in a cinnamon mood, go for it ;-)
