Backstage

19 May

When I was a ballet dancer I used to love theatre rehearsals and being on stage.

The lights, the smell and all the fuss and stage fright backstage.

Last time I went to Paris I had the great opportunity to share this moment with a theatre group right before their big moment.

There is something fascinating about actors getting ready. There is that calm fuzziness that´s gets you too and sometimes there´s something very melancholic about it.

Origami Bag

12 Mar

Imagine all that stuff you are supposed to carry around with you the whole day but you don´t have a bag big enough.

Am I the only one who wanted Marry Poppins´ bag where you can fit all the things that you want and the bag doesn´t even look big?

Well, not only did I find that bag, but I MADE it!!!

… and I made it even prettier with Swarovski crystals at one of the creative workshops  at Swarovski Crystal World.

I had so much fun and it was a great thing to do with a friend, though I don´t think either of us was particularly skilled, creative or very patient (try placing tiny gems with tweezers…).

But I was amazed how prepared the other participants were (and yes, there was even a man!) and how beautiful all the designs turned out.

Once you are done with placing the gems (two hours… but turned out to be quite meditative) on a silicon mat, you put clear film on it to grasp all the gems, then place it on the fabric of your soon-to-be bag (at this point it is a giant scarf) and your design gets hot-pressed on the fabric. So basically your gems are glued to the fabric.

So now I have a beautiful scarf with a sparkling tree on it… what now?

I call the beautiful Somi to help you knot the scarf into a lovely (and very practical) bag.

I got so over excited; I even made one for my sister.

There are so many possibilities in knotting a scarf. For every occasion there is a knot and therefore a bag. Somi even uses it as a gift wrap.

In case you want to feel like a little princess (or prince) playing around with beautiful sparkling crystals (I used the ones designed for a Christian Dior collection in the 1960ies) and know how to create your own bag and need more information, please check out the following links:

One line a day

12 Feb

I am a huge fan of notebooks. I always carry one in my bag in case inspiration strikes. I used to have diaries but in the end I couldn´t be bothered and I was afraid someone might read it.

IMAG0494

Now I have found the perfect way to write down my most important memories without to much effort. Ginger Bread Boy has one too, so it´s nice to have a different point of view on events.

One line a day is a memory book where you write a sentence each day for 5 years. I really like the idea to know what happened on the exact day one, two or three years ago… Where I have been, who I have met, what happened.

IMAG0492

Hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I do. It could also be a nice thing to have for an about-to-be-mum to write down every moment of a pregnancy and baby´s first steps. ;-)

Swarovski World

21 Jan

A few weeks ago, I´ve been to the Swarovski Electro Festival at Swarovski World.

I´ve been completely mesmerized by the music and the light show. But most important of all, it has been weird to be there at night, because I had only come during the day to the Swarovski World exhibition.

But also at night… there is sparkle wherever you look. Everything is shiny and light is breaking into various colours.

You walk down a paths with lit up trees, next to the green giant spitting out a crystal waterfall.  At the entrance you can either stay outside on the terrace, sit on fur and warm yourself  at the open fire or go inside and have a fancy cocktail  (or in my case beer…lol) in the beautiful and elegant bar.  Once you are ready you can walk down the staircase to the club area and dance the night away.

During the day, the Crystal World really is more of a museum. You have seasonal exhibitions or the classic tour, a mix of art, sparkles and wonderland.

Let it sparkle!!!

First snow

16 Oct

The perks of living in the Alps:

You wake up on the 16th of October and you can smell it…

You can’t see it because the mountains are hidden by low clouds…

You feel it in your breath…

You feel it in your bones…

First snow.

Behind the scenes

15 Oct

Every now and then I work on a photoshoot.

I love it because you never know where you’ll end up (in this case is was a loft/architecture office) and how the pictures will turn out once they are done ( make up – location – light – shoot- photoshop- etc.).

Anway, you always end up doing something you were not supposed to do.. like pretending to be an expert in light… means I held the reflector ;-)

And that’sthe result:

Oktoberfest

9 Oct

You may have heard about it… once a year the worlds eyes are on Munich.

It´s Oktoberfest time!!!

What´s not to like? People from all over the world gather together in traditional bavarian clothes; Dirndl for the girls, Lederhosen for the boys.

Eveybody is an a good mood and while singing German folk song you enjoy a Maß of beer.

I think guys like it because there is beer en masse and boobs everywhere. ;-)

And for the ladies… well there are boys everywhere…

The Oktoberfest´s energy is really hard to describe… imagine a tent with 3000 people, wearing folk dresses, standing on benches singing an dancing while drinking liters of delicious bavarian beer and eating the best roast chicken ever.

Hope to see you next week on the “Wiesn“.

A sea full of possibilities

9 Sep

When I was a little girl, my Mum used to drag me to the Marché StPierre (a huge fabric store) in Paris once a year.

I loved it because it was a sea of different colours, prints and textures…. like a fairytale world.

Now I enjoy it even more because I don’t only see colours and texture.

I see possibilities.

I see coats and jackets, evening and night gowns, new furniture and decoration… I feel creative, or at least it makes me want to be creative.

My head gets dizzy from all the patterns in my head as I try to figure out where I’ll get all that free time to sew…
